Camp Out is organised by a small but dedicated group of volunteers, with varied backgrounds in teaching, social work, art education, queer organising and activism.
Jes is an Art teacher, community support worker, and cultural activities officer. She is currently working in a secondary school as an art teacher and in the community setting as an outreach tutor and an art tutor for a variety of adult and children's art classes at Pine Street Creative Arts Centre.
She has studied at the University of NSW in Art Education and studied overseas in Indonesia and the USA. Jes has been involved in community organising for the past 8 years in a variety of spaces, conferences and workshops and is excited and committed to working in the Camp Out core crew.
Karli is a 27 year old community worker, sound engineer and practising artist. They have been involved in the LGBTIQ community for the past decade working with a number of collectives and organizations. Karli has a BA in Media Production from the University of Technology Sydney and a Certificate IV in Community Welfare Work from TAFE NSW.
Karli has lived in New Orleans and travels overseas regularly. They were a drummer in a punk band for 5 years and enjoy playing and listening to music, adventuring, travelling and political performance art.
Karli is passionate about mental health advocacy, social justice and facilitating the greater participation of marginalized communities through community arts and media projects.
Ben is a 27 year old gay man from Sydney. He works with the Scholarships Office at the University of Technology, Sydney, and runs the school leaver scholarship program. He studied design at UNSW and has lived and studied overseas in Berlin.
Ben is always happy when eating delicious homemade food, roller skating, dancing and dj-ing, camping, hiking and riding his bike. He is involved in organising with community groups such as the Sydney Roller Derby League. Ben is one of Camp Out's fabulous and dedicated kitchen crew, along with Renata.
Mish is a trans* femme identified queer who has worked in the LGBTIQ community for a number of years. They have been involved as a queer officer for the University of Sydney, state queer officer for NSW, a facilitator for ACON’s Fun and Esteem project, and currently works for a community health organisation. Mish has run numerous workshops and presentations for a variety of conferences, collectives and organisations around queer and trans* issues, mental health and consent.
Mish enjoys community organising, dressing up, makeup, vegan baking, reading, music, colourful hair and dancing.
Jackson has been involved in the LGBTIQ community both on a personal and a professional level for the past 10 years. He is a community organiser in queer and transgender communities and has worked within collectives and organizations in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland on projects around consent and sexual assault issues, transgender issues and transgender community building, self defence, peer-counselling, harm reduction, and community conciousness raising.
Born in Denmark, currently living in Sydney.
Lisa has previously worked in an after school program with 4th to 7th graders while studying history at the University of Copenhagen.
After being involved in organizing an annual music festival for 6 years in Denmark, she has now settled in Sydney as bike mechanic engaging in different ways to promote bicycle culture and pedal power. Enjoys music, bicycle culture and her newly acquired fish tank.
Lisa is involved in pre-camp organising and attends camp week as a core crew member.
A 27 year old with a passion for community organising. She is a busy participator in queer, political and music groups of Sydney. A member of a queer dance troupe and organiser of community interest gatherings, she also enjoys travelling, dancing, healthy eating, bike culture and organising punk shows around Australia.
Anika is part of the pre-camp organising collective, particularly being the media liaison, camper outreach, fundraising committee and policy and procedure committee. Anika attends camp week as a core crew member.
Renata has worked in the community and not-for-profit sector for many years. From the College of Fine Arts Students Association to Alfalfa House community cooperative, Renata has been involved in many projects bringing the community together. She has an arts background with a degree in Arts/ Fine Arts from UNSW. Renata has spent a number of years living and studying in Germany. She is passionate about social justice, community networking and gardening. Renata is one of Camp Out's fabulous and dedicated kitchen crew, along with Ben.
Shelagh is a 25 year old queer-identifying person who has worked in community organisations for a number of years. Shelagh has also been involved in queer community organising, and volunteering at community-run queer events space The Red Rattler. By night Shelagh is a freelance sound engineer mixing live gigs, and plays guitar in punk rock bands. Shelagh is ridiculously excited about being involved in Camp Out again.
